Questions & answers

The things riders actually ask. You can ask any of these in the planner too, in your own words, and it will answer there.

Can I import a GPX file?

Yes. Under Routes, tap Import GPX. I read which numbered junctions the track passes and rebuild it as a signed knooppunt ride, with the first and last unsigned stretch routed for you, and I tell you honestly how much of the original line the signed ride covers.

Open Routes

Can I get my previous route back?

Yes. Say "back to the previous route" and the route an edit replaced comes straight back. Saying it again swaps forward again, so you can flip between two candidates to compare them.

Where do I see the elevation profile?

Tap the climb number on the route card and the elevation profile folds open, on hilly routes it shows by itself. During a ride, the progress bar at the top of the ride screen is the profile: green behind you, the climbs ahead in grey.

How do I clear the route?

Just tell me, "clear the route", and it's gone. The ✕ next to the route name does the same, and describing a new ride simply replaces the one on screen. A route you saved lives under Routes, where the Delete button removes it for good.

Open Routes

How do I rename a saved route?

Open Routes and tap Rename on the route, type the new name and save. Routes kept on this device can be removed there too, with the ✕ beside them; the share link you already sent keeps working.

Open Routes

How do I save a route?

Tap Share on the route card, that keeps the route and gives it a permanent link and code, no account needed. Sign in as well and your saved routes follow you to the app and any other device.

How do I get the route onto my phone or GPS?

Tap "Use this route", "Send to phone" shows a QR, or install KnoopHop from the App Store or Google Play. Then your route's Keep-it link (knoophop.be/r/…) opens it in the app, calling out every node as you reach it.

How do I share a route with friends?

Tap Share on the route card: you get a short code and a link. Anyone can type the code on knoophop.be or open the link and see this exact route, no account, and it keeps working.

Can I print a route?

Under "Take this route" there's Print: a one-page sheet with the node numbers in order, the map and a QR code, scan it on the road and the route opens on your phone.

Where do I get the app?

The app is on the App Store and Google Play, free while we're in beta. Easiest: open knoophop.be/getapp on your phone, or scan the QR on the route sheet.

I forgot my password: what now?

On the sign-in screen tap "Forgot your password?" and we mail you a link that lets you set a new one. Open the link in the same browser you asked from, and if it has expired that page can send you a fresh one.

Can I make the text bigger?

Open the menu at the top right and pick a bigger size under Text size, the whole app follows, and it stays that way on this device.

How do I change the language?

Open the menu (☰, top right), the language switcher is there: English, Nederlands, Français, Deutsch. Everything follows, including the spoken cues in the app.

Can I switch to miles?

Distances follow your choice in the menu (☰, top right): kilometres or miles. The app's ride screen has the same toggle and remembers it.

Can I change the assumed speed?

Tap the time on the route card and it cycles through paces, 12, 16, 20 or 25 km/h riding, 4 to 6 km/h walking. The number under the time says which one the estimate uses, and this device remembers your choice.

Can I plan by time instead of distance?

You can ask by time instead of distance, "an hour on the bike", "two hours", "half a day", and I turn it into kilometres at an unhurried pace, about 18 km/h riding and 4.5 km/h walking, stops included. Say a number of kilometres instead whenever you would rather set it yourself.

Can I speak to it instead of typing?

Both directions work: tap the microphone next to the input to speak your request, and the speaker icon makes me read replies aloud. While riding, the app calls out every node and understands "find water" or "bring me home".

Can I make the voice louder?

In the app's ride screen, open Voice and pick soft, normal or loud, it speaks a sample so you can hear it straight away. Your phone's volume buttons during a spoken node still work best, and on Android they are the reliable one.

How do I rate a stop?

On the stop card you'll see bike symbols, tap them to rate how cycle-friendly the place was. Ratings from riders feed straight into which cafés I pick for everyone.

Can I save my home or my usual car park?

Use "Save spot" on the map to name a place, home, the car park you like. The list of saved places stays on your device; the coordinate travels with any route you plan from it. From then on "a 40 km loop from home" just works.

Can I ride the Vlaanderenroute or another named route?

Name one of the nine signed Flemish routes and I'll ride the real thing, the Vlaanderenroute, Kustroute, Heuvelroute, Schelderoute, Kempenroute, Maasroute, Kunststedenroute, Frontroute 14-18 or the Groene Gordelroute. I'll ask which ride you want: the whole route in day stages, a loop of your distance that runs along it, or a stretch from one town to another. Other named routes I don't carry, and I'd rather say so than guess.

Do I have to enter knooppunt numbers myself?

You don't need knooppunt numbers at all, that's my job. Just tell me the ride in your own words: "a flat 40 km loop from Ghent, quiet roads, coffee halfway", and I'll work out which junctions it runs through. If you already have numbers you want to follow, you can type them as "38-34-35-30" and I'll ride exactly those, in that order.

How do I make the route longer or shorter?

Just say it: "60 km", "a bit longer", "half a day". I rebuild from the same start and keep everything you already asked for, quiet roads, a coffee stop, the lot.

How should I describe the ride I want?

Say it in one sentence, the way you'd say it to a friend: "a flat 40 km loop from Ghent, quiet roads, coffee halfway". Where, how far, and anything you care about, hills, traffic, surface, a stop, the water. Knooppunt numbers work too. If you leave something out I'll assume something sensible and tell you what I assumed, so you can change it in one word.

Can I ask for quiet or flat roads?

Just say it, "quiet roads", "as flat as possible", "avoid the busy roads", "paved only", "along the water", "keep off the canal". Say it when you ask, or afterwards about a route you already have. And if I can't actually improve it here, I'll say so rather than hand you the same ride with a nicer sentence.

What are fietsknooppunten (numbered nodes)?

Numbered nodes are the signed junctions of the cycling and walking networks across Belgium, the Netherlands and parts of Germany and France, small green signs with a number. You ride from number to number; I plan the sequence and the app calls each one out as you reach it.

What does it cost?

Planning here is free, and the app is free while we're in beta. No ads, and no third-party tracking scripts. We do measure whether an ad click led to a planned route, and only if you agreed to it.

How do I delete my account and my data?

On your Account page you can export everything you own and delete the account, deletion removes your account and everything tied to it, no email required. A route you shared with a code stays reachable by that code, because it was saved without your name on it.

How do I report a problem?

Tell us via the Feedback button, it lands directly with the maker, with the route attached if you send it from a route. Reports get read and answered.

What is a GPX file?

A GPX file is the universal route format every bike computer, watch and outdoor app understands. You rarely need to think about it: under "Take this route" → Other devices, pick your device and follow the steps, the file and the import are handled there.
